How to Make the Perfect Steak?
A well-cooked steak is practically essential when grilling, and with our tips, you’ll become a true grill master.
- Preparation
Remove the steaks from the fridge at least 30 minutes before grilling to bring them to room temperature. This ensures even cooking.
Pat the steaks dry with kitchen paper and lightly coat them with olive oil. Generously season with salt and pepper on both sides. Thick steaks require more salt and pepper than thin ones, so keep that in mind. A pinch of garlic powder is also a great addition (or use garlic flakes). - Heat the Grill
Fire up the grill section of the outdoor kitchen with wood, such as oak. The wood gives the steak an intense flavor. On a traditional grill, you would need a hot and 'cold' zone, but in our outdoor kitchens, that's not necessary as they feature an adjustable grill grate.
Allow the grill to heat up until the grate is hot. - Grilling
Place the steaks directly on the grate. Grill for 2-3 minutes per side to get a nice crust. Use tongs to flip the steaks; avoid piercing the meat to keep the juices inside. Note: if the meat doesn't release from the grate, be patient. Once the meat is seared enough, it will naturally release.
Move the grate up (using the winch on the side), allowing the steaks to cook at a lower temperature.
Rare: 50-52°C
Medium rare: 54-57°C
Medium: 60-63°C
Use a meat thermometer for precision. - Resting
Remove the steaks from the grill and let them rest for 5-10 minutes on a cutting board, loosely covered with aluminum foil. This allows the juices to redistribute in the meat. If you cut the steak before resting, all the juices will escape, and the meat will be dry. A good rule of thumb is to let the steak rest for as long as it was on the grill. - Serving
Optionally, garnish with a dollop of herb butter. Serve immediately with side dishes like grilled vegetables or a fresh salad.
Tips for the Perfect Steak
Choose the right steak: Go for well-marbled meat (like ribeye) for extra juiciness and flavor. Ask your butcher for advice. Every grill master should try a wagyu steak at least once. This meat is known for its buttery texture and incredible flavor. It does come with a hefty price tag, but it's worth trying at least once in your life.
Keep it simple: Salt, pepper, and a hot grill are all you need. Let the quality of the meat take center stage. Our adjustable grill system helps you with that.
Use a meat thermometer: This ensures your steak isn’t undercooked or overcooked. Some thermometers can be inserted into the raw steak and stay in place while cooking. You can then read the internal temperature in the accompanying app. If you have a thermometer that you need to poke into the steak each time to measure, don't do it too often! Otherwise, too much moisture will escape from the steak.
Using ready-made charcoal? Add some damp wood for extra flavor: a few pieces of damp hardwood on the coals will give your steak a subtle smoky flavor.
Make an herb oil: Use fresh herbs like rosemary and garlic to make an aromatic oil and lightly brush your steak while grilling. True masters use a few sprigs of rosemary and thyme, dip them in the oil, and use them to brush the steaks.
With these steps and tips, your steak will not only be perfect but also a true flavor sensation. Enjoy!
